Air vs. Coilovers
A vehicle’s suspension connects the chassis to the wheels, supporting the weight of your car and impacting stance, ride height, handling, and ride quality.
Upgrading your vehicle’s suspension improves its aesthetics, allows enthusiasts to customize it, and improves performance and handling. There are several options for shifting the stance of your vehicle and its suspension, and Air Lift Performance offers the best coilover and air suspension systems/kits.
With our kits installed, your vehicle’s ride quality and handling will improve, along with its new ride height and appearance.
Air Lift Performance coilovers and air suspensions are adjustable, and our new coilover range will be upgradeable to air-adjustable.
Coilovers are part of the suspension system, with a steel coil spring going over the shock or strut. Coilover kits use springs to help achieve smooth performance but are slower to change heights than air suspension kits. Adjusting settings for a different ride height is possible, but it won't be as easy as pushing a button.
Coilovers allow for adjustability through a threaded body and lower mount, which requires some work, including jacking the vehicle up and removing a wheel and components. Once your coilovers are installed and set, you can enjoy your ride’s new feel and be confident moving on.
With air suspension, the coil is replaced with an enclosed flexible rubber membrane known as an air spring. The springs can be inflated or deflated, adjusting the vehicle ride height.
If you’re ready to jump into the best of the best, treat yourself and choose air suspension. Its in-the-moment adjustability allows you to raise or lower your vehicle anytime. With our front and rear kits with air management, you can keep your car close to the ground while raising it to clear any road obstacles or speed bumps.
If you’re not ready but still want a quality suspension setup with an aggressive lowered stance, choose coilovers. With the ability to be upgraded down the road to air suspension via coilover upgrade kits (coming soon), you can take your coilovers to the next level by converting from coil springs to air suspension with air springs.
The coil-to-air upgrade can be completed by an experienced DIY’er or through an authorized installer. Installation requires removing the upper mounts and coil springs from the coilovers. Then, the air spring included in the coilover upgrade kit can be threaded onto the dampers. From there, reassemble the strut or shock with the included hardware and the previously removed upper mounts, and you’re done with the suspension side of it. Choose your desired control system to pair with your new air suspension kit, and you’re done!
When it comes to suspension, Air Lift has been in the business since 1949 and has been dedicated to creating air suspension parts since. With our years of industry knowledge, we wanted to offer our customers an air path - but only when you’re ready!
